My interest in herbs developed from my love of the Earth and growing things. As a Colorado Native, growing things was always a struggle. I sought guidance first from Rodale’s Herb Book more than 30 years ago. I began by using companion planting to protect my veggies from bugs. The herbs increased the vitality and productivity of my garden. Once I had grown the herbs I felt the need to do something with them. I researched the medicinal properties of the herbs I grew. Teamed up with a girl friend that also had a garden and formulated herbal teas, facial steams and baths using the herbs we grew. We designed the packaging and put together gift baskets which were sold at craft fairs. This was my first herb business. As a mother and animal lover, I used my knowledge of herbs to manage the wellness of my children and pets. My tea blends were reformulated to appeal to children while continuing to be effective and safe. My spring time tonic herbal tea blend prepared as a sun tea is a favorite. I remember giving my 6 year old son a taste of my first attempt at making cough syrup. With one taste he was instantly healed. I can only guess it tasted so bad that he figured, he better get better quick. Since then my blending skills have improved and over the years My herbal concoctions have proven to be effective in managing a wide variety of ailments with myself, my friends and family, children and pets. I earned my formal education at The Rocky Mountain Center for Botanical Studies in Boulder. My teachers were world renowned herbalists (link to my studies). The salve I offer here for sale was developed when I was in school. The assignment was to formulate, make and package a salve. As I was plagued by eczema most of my adult life, I took my condition as a focus and created a very beneficial salve. It has evolved over the years and continues to be effective for a wide range irritating skin conditions. I then began my professional employment as an Herbalist at Wild Oats. I taught classes and sold my salves, bulk tea blends, baths and facial steams in the stores. As a member of the American Herbalist Guild, I regularly attend educational conferences and events. Frontier Herbs Cooperative holds one of my favorite events annually at their facility and provides an inexpensive opportunity to rub elbows with other herbalists, expand knowledge base and have a really good time. Over the years, I continue to evolve as an Herbalist. My studies have led to a book which is available through this website. I teach classes locally, study and grow herbs. I work to conserve our Earth’s natural resources and preserve our native species. I am experimenting with xeriscaping and collect water of my roof to supplement the water use in my garden. I work my private practice custom blending herbal teas and extracts. I continue to sell the teas and body care products formulated so many years ago And look forward to what the future holds.
